Welcome to the 5th Grade!!!!!

I am your child’s 5th grade Math and Science teacher for the 2020-2021 school years. This will be my 9th year teaching 5th grade at BVES. I graduated from the University of Phoenix in 2012 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education and I am certified in Elementary Education grades 1-8. Previously, I taught Health/PE and assisted in PreK at BVES. In 2017, I earned my Master's Degree in Elementary Education through Grand Canyon University. I am excited to be at BVES another year and working with your child!

I grew up in Florida, and I have been a resident of Plaquemines Parish for the past 33 years. I am married to my wonderful husband, Donald. We share five children: Shawn lives in California, Kendra lives in Texas, Patrick lives in Terrytown, Donald is at home working locally, and Rachel is preparing to attend college.

It is my hope that we as a team will work together to provide your child with the necessities to blossom into an accomplished fifth grader. For success, we will need a valuable method of communication between home and school. I believe it is important for you as the foundation of your child’s growth to know his/her successes and will send home tokens of these achievements throughout the school year. Please feel free to contact me via email or call the school to set up an appointment to visit me if you should have any concerns.

Again, welcome to fifth grade. I look forward to spending this year with you and your child!!

Why I Teach...

I believe it is my duty as a professional to encourage student learning through new and innovative hands-on, real-world information that captures student interests and piques their unique learning styles. Not only are my students growing in their learning, I too am growing in my learning with and from them.

I believe students have dreams and I desire to help them make those dreams a reality. As quoted from Dan Rather, "The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called "truth."

I teach for the smallest of moments:

- The student who struggles, but always gives his or her best daily.
- The student who comes to school despite feeling poorly, so he or she can keep learning.
- When students from previous years wish to come back to my classroom.
- To see the looks on their faces and to hear the truthful comments when I have a change in my weight, new clothing, or a new hair style.

The reasons I teach are many, but MOST importantly,
I teach for them!
