Welcome to our fifth-grade classroom!!

 

I am very excited to be your child’s fifth grade teacher and I look forward to assisting your child with success through the fifth grade.

 

This will be my 15th year teaching 5th grade at BVES. I graduated from the University of Phoenix in 2012 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education, from Grand Canyon University in 2017 with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, receive my Math Content Leader certification in 2022, and I am certified in Elementary Education grades 1-8. Previously, I taught Health/PE and assisted in PreK at BVES. I am excited to be at BVES another year and working with your child!

 

I grew up in Florida, and I have been a resident of Plaquemines Parish for the past 38 years. I am married to my wonderful husband, Donald, and we share five children.

 

It is my hope that we as a team will work together to provide your child with the necessities to blossom into an accomplished fifth grader. For success, we will need a valuable method of communication between home and school. I believe it is important for you as the foundation of your child’s growth to know his/her successes.

I believe it is my duty as a professional to encourage student learning through new and innovative hands-on, real-world information that captures student interests and piques their unique learning styles. Not only are my students growing in their learning, I too am growing in my learning with and from them.

 

I believe students have dreams and I desire to help them make those dreams a reality. As quoted from Dan Rather, "The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called "truth."

 

I teach for the smallest of moments:

 

- The student who struggles, but always gives his or her best daily.

- The student who comes to school despite feeling poorly, so he or she can keep learning.

- When students from previous years wish to come back to my classroom.

- To see the looks on their faces and to hear the truthful comments when I have a change in my weight, new clothing, or a new hair style.

 

The reasons I teach are many, but MOST importantly,

I teach for them!
