Boothville-Venice Elementary School hosted a vibrant and educational celebration to welcome the 2025 Asian New Year with all ELL students, on January 31st. The event, which was attended by students, staff, parents,and local community members, was a resounding success in promoting cultural awareness and fostering unity.
The celebration, which marked the beginning of the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac, featured a variety of activities designed to immerse participants in Asian traditions. Students showcased their talents with traditional attire and Asian music.
Students welcomed parents and families in their own language; English-Gavin Ragas, Vietnamese- Kayla Le, Cambodian- Skyler Chhuon & Kalsen Om, Spanish- Angelina Perez, and Laos- Avarie Om. The event was also a chance for local families to share their cultural heritage through fellowship and food.
Principal Maria Prout expressed her pride in the success of the celebration, noting that it was not only a fun event but also an opportunity for learning and growth. "We wanted to give our students a chance to explore and celebrate their rich cultural tradition. Events like these promote understanding, respect, and appreciation for the diversity within our community."
School Board members in attendance were; Mr. Ronald Bateman, Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Mary Ellen Hamner, Director of Special Education, Ms. Tonika Peavy, Supervisor of Federal Programs, Mrs. Patricia Haydel, Director of Early Childhood Education, Ms. Michelle LeBlanc, Instructional Coach and Mrs. Jennifer Sanger, School Board Executive Committee Member. A huge thank you to Dr. Shelley Ritz, who in her absence sent a wonderful team to represent the district.
