4th Grade EarthKeepers

On October 8th -10th , Boothville-Venice Elementary School’s 4th graders attended an overnight educational experience with T.R.E.E (Teaching Responsible Earth Education). T.R.E.E is a New Orleans area non-profit organization focused on Earth education. Since 1995, T.R.E.E has provided comprehensive curriculum based, life science and Earth education programs, or “outdoor classrooms,” to thousands of children, parents, and teachers from throughout the New Orleans metropolitan area.

Boothville-Venice Elementary students have been a part of the Earthkeepers program for several years; however, this was their first overnight experience. The fourth graders at Boothville-Venice Elementary along with multiple chaperones traveled to Covington, Louisiana for this educational field trip. During the students’ educational experience at the Earthkeepers facility, students were able to appreciate nature’s gift of sunlight, trees, and many types of plants and animals. Earthkeepers is a curriculum-based
environmental science program in which students learn four scientific concepts: energy flow, cycles, interrelationships, and change. Students earn keys to four boxes that unlock these four scientific concepts. Students also explore the natural world with the goal of using their knowledge and
awareness to make personal commitments for environmental change. It is their hope that students will take what they have learned and experienced at the Earthkeepers facility and apply it to their every day lives to keep a healthy and clean planet.
